Polish Washington Directory

Directory > Products > Pottery

Unlike other pages in this directory, this page is the webmaster's tribute to the unique international community of Boleslawiec pottery distributors and collectors.  Together, the two groups bring beauty to people's homes, enrich the cultures of the US and the UK and keep quite a few people over in Boleslawiec, Poland--skillful artisans, business people and a variety of shipping and service workers--gainfully employed.  This page is possibly the most extensive listing of Boleslawiec distributors.  Enjoy browsing through this virtual Boleslawiec shopping mall.  (If you are a distributor and want to get listed here, click here.)

Note:  Washington area distributors are marked as LOCAL.

Andrea's Polish Pottery -- Owings Mills, Maryland, USA

Andrea invites you to her "online shop for the unique pottery of my ancestors' homeland."  On her Web site, she writes "I fell in love with Polish Pottery a few years ago while living in Germany and taking day trips to Boleslawiec.  Now I am excited to be able to offer it to you through the Internet."

Artistic Polish Pottery -- Connecticut and Massachusetts

Artistic Polish Pottery specializes in Boleslawiec Polish Pottery from the factory of Ceramika Artystyczna.  We are an Internet-based company located in Connecticut.  Monthly specials and bridal registry are available.

I started collecting Polish Pottery 10 years ago.  As my collection grew, I realized how much I enjoyed the variety of patterns that were offered and decided to offer the merchandise to others.  Thus, Artistic Pottery was founded in the year 2000 as the result of my passion for the handmade stoneware.  I have been serving Connecticut and Massachusetts residents for over 4 years with quality Ceramika Artystyczna Polish Pottery Stoneware.  For more information about the pottery, see our Pottery Page.

One of my favorite items are the dinner plates.  I recommend this bowl for serving guests.  Are you looking for the perfect gift?  Look no more!  Take a look in our Specialty Items.

Don't forget to check out where Artistic Polish Pottery will be next in the Upcoming Events section.

Ceramica Arte, Inc. -- Thousand Oaks, California, USA

Ceramica Arte, Inc. Logo

"Welcome to Ceramica Arte's website, where you will find an eclectic selection of Boleslawiec handcrafted pottery.  Boleslawiec, the ancient Silesian town of Bunzlau is renowned for its expertly produced stoneware, and is known as the "town of good clay."  The origins of Boleslawiec pottery date back to the 17th century.  This pottery ordered then by nobility featured heraldic crests and insignia applied to the brown ware in the form of molded relief.  This type of high-fired earthenware flourished into the 19th century, in the form of fancy wares and utilitarian brown slip storage and cooking vessels.  At the end of the 19th century, brown slip was replaced by rich, vibrant blue, green and orange colors applied by the punch (stamp) technique.  The sponge decorations featured a range of motifs derived from folk art and art nouveau (Jugendstil).  The most representative was the peacock's eye ( Pfauenauge), a trademark of Boleslawiec pottery to this day.  Paying homage to classic designs, Boleslawiec pottery combines contemporary colors, practicality and durability of every day pottery.  With the simplicity of design and the compatibility of patterns, these pieces are destined to be mixed and matched with one another in almost any décor.  We hope that our website will inspire you to create your own decorative look.  Our goal is to provide service of the same high quality, as we demand of our products.  We hope that you find the site easy to use, do feel free to get in touch with us by phone, fax, or email with any questions or concerns."

"Together with my daughter, Heather Jenkins, I sell and distribute Polish pottery from Boleslawiec.  We have a retail shop in Fairfield, Pennsylvania, only eight miles from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and about 1 1/2 hours from Washington, D.C.  We also wholesale/distribute to retail customers in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, northern Virginia, southern Ohio and other points in the mid-Atlantic region.  My daughter and I have been doing this for two years.  I have a website, www.mckessonhouse.com.  We have a nice number of customers from the Washington area."

McKesson House Pottery and Folk Art Store holds occasional warehouse sales, which they advertise widely.  During those sales, they offer pottery at discounts ranging from 10% - 40%.  Sarah describes those warehouse sales as "once-a-year opportunities for pottery collectors to get some good deals."  The dates of their sales are announced via e-mail.

In June, McKesson House Pottery and Folk Art Store moved a few blocks to a new location on East Main Street in Fairfield.  They are now able to display Polish pottery in a friendly house-and-garden environment (see picture).

Sandersfield's Polish Pottery Imports -- New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

In this spring of 2005, Shana Sanders wrote:

My mother and I started a Polish Pottery Import business based out of New Orleans.  We fell in love with Polish Pottery while my sister was based in Germany with the Army.  She kept sending us this gorgeous pottery for gifts.  When we tried to find some in our area, we found that no one in the southern states sells it.  So, we decided to import it ourselves.  We have a wholesale business importing it into western Louisiana and eastern Mississippi and have branched out onto the Internet.  So far we are still a very small business, but we are growing as news of this beautiful pottery spreads.  We travel to Boleslawiec every three or four months to bring back pieces for our customers.  Lately we have been brining back extra pieces for a website and we would like for it to grow.  We offer free shipping and handling and will bring back special orders if a customer is willing to wait a few months until our next trip.  We are in the final stages of completing our on-line catalog.  Thank you.
